Chicago Helicopter Experience all started when founder Trevor Heffernan finally got fed up with traffic.
Trevor was trying to get to his family farm, Susanna Farms, after a busy week in downtown Chicago. He was tired and looking forward to seeing his family. But the traffic wasn’t moving.
Trevor decided that enough was enough. He wasn’t going to waste any more time stuck in traffic. There had to be a better way to get about.
As he sat in his stationary car, looking out at all the other cars going nowhere, he thought, “Wouldn’t it be awesome if I could just fly over all of this?”
So he started learning to fly helicopters. He got his pilot’s license, and he bought his own helicopter.
Now Trevor doesn’t get stuck in traffic anymore.
He also got to see incredible views of Chicago, and the surrounding countryside. He started posting photos on Facebook. His friends and family loved the photos as well, and suddenly Trevor had a long line of enthusiastic people all wanting to fly with him over downtown Chicago.
He thought to himself, “There’s a business here.”
He was right!
Trevor spent the next three years building and developing Chicago Helicopter Experience.
Trevor also realized that there was zero helicopter access allowed in downtown Chicago. So Trevor and his team worked extensively with the City of Chicago and on April 2nd, 2014 Chicago Helicopter Experience was granted permission to build and operate Chicago’s first and only private downtown heliport.
Now all of Chicago’s residents and visitors will be able to take a helicopter tour right out of the downtown heliport and see those incredible views of the city!
